Mainz 05 have won their first game of the season against Borussia Mönchengladbach with two goals from Lee Jae-sung and Barreiro helping them out.
The match between Mainz 05 and Borussia Mönchengladbach was played at the Commerzbank-Arena in Frankfurt on Saturday evening. The match was a closely contested affair with both teams playing well but unable to find the back of the net until the final minutes.
In the 72nd minute, Lee Jae-sung scored his second goal of the season after a fine individual move. He took a pass from Barreiro who had moved up the pitch and then found space inside the box. Lee Jae-sung showed great composure and finished coolly to give Mainz the lead.
Barreiro added another goal for Mainz just four minutes later as he headed home a cross from the right-hand side of the penalty area. This was Barreiro's third goal of the season and he has been a key player for Mainz so far this campaign.
Borussia Mönchengladbach did not give up easily though and they managed to pull one back through a well-taken goal from Nabil Bentaleb in the 88th minute. However, it was too little too late as Mainz held on for the win and started their league campaign with a positive result.
Overall, Mainz 05 looked strong and composed throughout the match and they were able to exploit their opportunities when they presented themselves. Lee Jae-sung and Barreiro were particularly impressive and their contributions helped to secure the three points for Mainz.
It will be interesting to see how Mainz perform over the course of the season as they look to challenge for promotion from the Bundesliga. They have a talented squad and plenty of quality players to call upon, so they should be able to cause some problems for other sides in the division.
